Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is with immense pleasure that we announce the 9th International Symposium of Ophthalmology (ISO) will be held in Guangzhou, China, on November 9 – 11, 2013. Hosted by the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC) and the State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology (SKLO) of the Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), the 9th ISO will be held in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the ZOC. It is anticipated that the meeting will bring together over 2,000 delegates from more than 50 countries with over 400 top-notch speakers from all over the world.
The 9th ISO is pleased that it is supported by many international, regional and national organizations which are leading experts in the field of ophthalmology and visual sciences including the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis, the International Ocular Inflammation Society, the International Society of Ocular Oncology, International Society of Ophthalmic Pathology, the International Society of Geographical and Epidemiology Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society, the New Zealand National Eye Centre, to name but a few. Together, we are confident that the 9th ISO will feature a comprehensive scientific program with symposium sessions covering a broad spectrum of topics in ophthalmology. What’s more, we are thrilled to share with you that the 9th ISO will feature a Plenary Lecture by Nobel Laureate, Prof Andrew V. Schally. His research into peptide hormone production in the brain won him the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1977 and his research focus in recent years is to apply his peptides in curing ocular diseases. We are hopeful that the 9th ISO will provide an excellent occasion for its attendees to have fruitful scientific exchange, as well as to build new friendships and look for collaborative opportunities.
Guangzhou is an ancient but dynamic city. It impressed the world with the successful 2010 Asian Games. It has seen rapid developments in the past few decades and is a world-renowned city for international trade and commerce. Delegates of the 9th ISO will surely be amazed by the historical and cultural atmosphere in the city and the 2,200-year-old history behind its development. We cordially invite you to join us at the 9th ISO and to explore the Guangzhou city during the Congress.
With warmest personal regards,
